Hotel Eden, Dorchester Collection In Rome

With so many museums, sights, restaurants and neighborhoods to visit, it can be overwhelming to plan a trip to Rome. The Eternal City is dense and every traveler wants to make the most of their time in the Italian capital without missing out on the best experiences. While some people opt to stay in the buzzing city center right around the corner from major sites like the Colosseum or the Pantheon, others prefer a little more room to breathe. And for those who want to enjoy the best of both worlds, there’s Hotel Eden.

Hotel Eden, part of the Dorchester Collection, is one of the Eternal City’s most coveted hotels and hangouts. The property underwent an extensive renovation last year and has re-emerged even more splendid than before, with opulent marble features, illuminated ceiling panels and Italianate design details adorning the lobby and lounges. Rich golds and amber hues are punctuated by white marble and black details, making for a grand entrance, and the handsome La Libreria sitting room beckons guests to linger for a while over a warming tea or sexy night cap. Luxurious but cozy at the same time, the hotel has a warm and relaxing ambiance that makes you feel like you’re staying in a glamorous home rather than an impersonal hotel, a testament to the hospitality of its staff and alluring decor.

One of the greatest advantages of the Hotel Eden is its discreet but central location: it’s a short walk from the Spanish Steps and Piazza Barberini but just far enough away to feel like a real repose. The property is located on the edge of the Villa Borghese gardens and gives the impression of being immersed in the countryside rather than the heart of Rome, all while providing excellent views of the city skyline with The Vittoriano, St Peter’s Dome and even the Gasometro seemingly within your grasp.

Hotel Eden’s bedrooms juxtapose the Old World glamour of the communal areas with a more contemporary and pared-down vibe: the 98 rooms and suites feature a neutral palette of cream and beige with pretty details like beautiful upholstery in the closets and paneled antique mirrors, along with high ceilings that let Rome’s golden light shine through. And the bathrooms are truly dreamy, with white marble vanities and golden shimmers.

Hotel Eden also offers guests wonderful fine-dining experience in its two rooftop restaurants, Il Giardino and La Terrazza. I recently had the chance to join Hotel Eden for Sunday Brunch in Il Giardino and I highly recommend the extravagant affair: guests are treated to an extensive menu of sweet and savory dishes that will please all tastebuds and brunch is accompanied by live jazz and a 360 degree view of the city skyline.

Fabio Ciervo, Hotel Eden’s Executive Chef, drew inspiration for menu from his roots in Campania and the dining options are seemingly endless. At brunch you’ll enjoy everything from savory dishes like fresh pastas, pizza by the slice, vegetable pies and colorful salads to American classics like pancakes, waffles and the ever popular avocado toast. There’s an emphasis on healthy, seasonal foods and vegans and vegetarians alike will be spoiled for choice (the artichoke and pecorino pie was a standout!). And for sweets, there’s a tempting array of cakes, muffins and pastries that are almost too pretty to eat.. almost!

Update September 2020: Hotel Eden has recently reopened and implemented additional healthy and safety measures throughout the restaurant. The Sunday brunch has been reimagined as a multi-course meal served to your table, rather than a buffet. It includes a tantalizing array of appetizers, fresh pastas, a choice between meat or fish and pastries for a sweet finale. For more information, please visit the website.
