The Eternal City is well-known for its romance, allure and charm and no hotel encapsulates the city’s dolce vita lifestyle more than the Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts. First opened in the 1960s, this grand dame hotel has been a fixture of the luxury hospitality scene for over half a century and remains an important icon in the public’s imagination. Located north of the Vatican on Monte Mario, the highest point in the city, the Rome Cavalieri complements beautiful views of the city skyline with sumptuous furnishings, elegant decor and an atmosphere of overall grandeur.

World-Class Collection Of Art

From the minute you step through the Rome Cavalieri’s doors, you’re greeted by one of the hotel’s most unique features: an extensive collection of art decorating the lobby, hallways and meeting areas. The hotel is home to one of the greatest private art collections in the world and includes dozens of priceless oil paintings, Baroque furniture, statues and tapestries. The most precious works in the collection include a triptych by 18th Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo that date back to 1725 and are estimated at over €8 million. The museum-quality works hang in the Tiepolo Lounge where you can enjoy them while you sip on a signature cocktail and nibble on stuzzichini, or light finger foods.

The Rome Cavalieri’s suites are just as decadent as the hotel’s public spaces and make for a truly indulgent home away from home in the Eternal City. I enjoyed a little staycation in Rome with my good friend and savvy travel planner Lexi Doerfler, aka The Destination Designer, and from the moment we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with a glass of bubbly to enjoy while we checked in to our room. Throughout our stay, the Rome Cavalieri’s staff was extremely friendly and hospitable, eager to anticipate and meet all of our needs and even stopped by to leave us a few treats, like a bottle of prosecco and macaroons to enjoy on our own private balcony.

The Imperial Suites & Imperial Club

Our suite was located on the Imperial Floor of the Rome Cavalieri with beautiful views of the city and access to the elegant Imperial Club that is open for guests from morning until late. This cozy space is like a privileged airport lounge but better: it serves a beautiful array of sweet and savory treats from breakfast and lunch through to afternoon tea, aperitivo and after-dinner. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a bite to eat while soaking in views from the balcony. From up here, you can pinpoint St. Peter’s Dome, the Vittoriano, the Pantheon and more as you look out over Rome while enjoying stellar service from the Imperial Club’s friendly staff. Tea time was a particularly extravagant affair, with dainty tea sandwiches, a hot chocolate station, freshly baked cakes and scones, and much more.

Amenities

A world unto itself, the Rome Cavalieri is a perfect refuge from the city and its world-class amenities will keep you pampered for days. The hotel’s stunning indoor swimming pool features an enclosed glass architecture reminiscent of a bright greenhouse and regal details, while a large outdoor swimming pool is the place to be on hot summer days. And with a well-equipped gym (with wireless machines that connect to your phone) and a luxurious spa that offers a wide array of facial and body treatments (plus a Turkish bath, sauna and hairdresser), it’s easy to lose track of time while you’re unwinding. There are also two outdoor tennis courts located within the hotel’s extensive gardens.

Dining

The Rome Cavalieri is not only famous for its 5-star hotel but also for being home to Rome’s only 3-star Michelin Restaurant, La Pergola, helmed by Chef Heinz Beck. Located on the rooftop of the hotel, this exclusive restaurant reimagines Italian and Mediterranean ingredients to create an avant-garde dining experience that includes dishes like marinated red shrimp with white melon, herb pesto and hibiscus flower infusion and deep-fried zucchini flowers with caviar, shellfish and saffron consommé.

With its suburban location and comfortable atmosphere, the Rome Cavalieri is a great base for families, business travelers and repeat visitors to the city who want to relax during their stay in the Eternal City. For more information and to book your stay, visit the Rome Cavalieri website.
